So I ran into an issue where I copied takeoffs from one layer to another, the issue I had is I created child takeoffs using the text with tag option, when I copied the takeoffs, if there was not a parent takeoff the child takeoff copied without the parent and thus it took on the name of something else and caused all kinds of confusion for the new layer/job. Looking to see if there can be a fix that will copy the parent name over even if there is no takeoff. It would be nice if it could copy the folder too if it was part of a folder.
Hi, you will need to copy parents to the new layers if you want them to be available to their children. I'm not sure of another way to get you want you are asking, as that is a limitation of layers.
The problem is if I copy the blank versions, it wants to create new takeoffs when copied, sometimes on a certain page, the child will not have a parent takeoff item, so when copied to a new page, layer or project, and I used text with tags, it will take on a different folder name after copied. This is why the need to be able to report off of page folders, When using layers, I cannot share takeoffs between layers unless I copy them over first, Copying layers creates a huge mess especially on a large job, and then I cannot delete layers even after I cleared out all takeoff and annotations. This was part of my performance issue, as I was copying a layer multipule times, I didnt know it copied as it would not populate until you re-select layers
What was the original goal you had before you chose to copy across layers to accomplish the goal @Jeffery?
I needed to be able to report separately different areas of my job, I initially had these organized by the drawing folders, so I found out I can only sort by drawing sheets and not the folders, this created too much to go through to price the takeoff items. So I copied these items into a new layer, but that didnt work out because of what I did with using text with tags and child takeoffs.
I believe if you use Takeoff Tree Reports you can sort by folders, and it uses your preferred folder order in Takeoffs.
Only for takeoff folders but not drawing folders
