Count/Linear/Area dropping into Folders

Planned

Good morning, is there any functionality when you do a count or linear to choose which folder to add the item into? Currently it looks like it just plops onto the takeoff and you need to tuck it into a folder. Would be nice to choose a folder and all items fall into that folder from then on until you choose another.

Or....there could be a folder drop where you can just click it to which folder you want your items to drop into so it's not on the pop up screen when you create an item

Thanks for the input. We do plan to add an option on the popup for "New Area", "New Linear", "New Count", etc. to choose the folder. I do like the idea that it remembers the last folder you put a takeoff item in and pre-selects that for new takeoff items. All these ideas flowing in from the community is great.

Just got through taking off close to 100 beams and was thinking the same thing

This is where “Takeoffs On Overlays Instead of Pages” begins to show its advantages: Any takeoff done on the current overlay is by definition on that overlay—which acts like a folder! No need for clumsy “move file to folder path” dialogues.

Every tool we set up should have a default "Folder" or "Layer"

We already set colours, line styles etc, but we should have the "Folder" or "Layer" predetermined as well.

I could see value in being able to change that value before takeoff. Alternatively, you click on the particular measurement you took and change the "Folder" or "Layer".

I would not like to see it "remember" the last folder, unless for some reason you were not populating the tool with a default "Folder" or "Layer".
