How are other users breaking down their QTO since zzTO doesn't have OST's 'Areas' function?

Under Review

I have trialed the 'layers' feature zzTO has as the workaround, but ultimately I do not like a few things about it:

  • You're unable to move one takeoff to another layer by selecting it on a page and moving/assigning to a different layer.
  • You're unable to cut/paste from one layer to another. You have to copy/paste and then go back and delete.
  • When you copy/paste a takeoff to another layer it creates a new takeoff and doesn't 'merge' with previously pasted takeoffs and you end up with a bunch of the same takeoff.
  • You're unable to see all layers at once. I would like this to ensure no scope gaps.

Are there other solutions for estimate breakouts?

Hi, maybe you could use duplicates of pages, where you takeoff like layers, but on different pages. I know this does not do everything you need, but it does address some of the features you requested above. I will forward this request to the dev team!

@Stephen this might work for a small job, but I can't imagine doing this for a drawing set that is 300+ pages where a client is requesting the project be broken down into 10+ scope buckets, alternates, etc.

I agree it is not perfect, I would love to see a feature that fixes this for you.

Victor,

Best practice....here is what we do until areas comes out in zz. 3 min video. LINK

Other best practices right now...1) we use layers for each user and 2) make a new project when we get the next major set of drawings SD/DD for example.
