Reports Customization

Under Review

Currently, we have way of choosing the report type and hit export afterwards. It would be really convenient if we could customize the report type in the zztakeoff itself.

My current practice is to export and then format the whole thing. I also would suggest if we can have features add project details as heading while doing the formatting. i have bunch of clients and all of their formats are different. i have to rely more on excel instead of zztakeoff.

Hi Aaditya,

You can customze the reports and Save As a Report in the Name of your Customer.

You then select the report from "Team Reports" (available for your Whole Team) or "My Reports" Available only to you

I will pass on your Suggestions that we have an option to export project details

thanks. My idea is I dont want to format again in excel. If we can have that level of customization then its a win-win because I can save a ton of time for doing stuff like centered text, color cells, merging, grouping, change font styles, change font size, headings, project related basic details etc....

I agree with Aaditya and understand 100% what his talking about, and I just want to raise a point and provide some feedback. because I do have the same problem.

At present, we’re unable to include the customer name, address, job location, or tax costs directly in the reports. To work around this, we need to create our own templates and manually copy and paste the information into them and then add items. Unfortunately, copying and pasting into Excel is a recipe for mistakes — sometimes significant ones.

When producing multiple reports with ZZ (for example, three different bid reports), they never come out exactly the same. There’s always a small discrepancy in the total cost, usually due to decimals. While the differences aren’t large, they do exist, and it creates uncertainty. The issue is compounded by the fact that much of the process involves copying, pasting which limits consistency and accuracy.

Many of us are currently in the process of transitioning away from PlanSwift, and we’ve been long-term members. We genuinely want to move across to ZZ Estimating and are actively trying to convince our company owners that it is the better platform. I truly believe that ZZ Estimating has the potential to be 100 times better in the long run.

However, at the moment, the transition process from PlanSwift to ZZ Estimating is proving challenging, and these reporting limitations are starting to pile up. Addressing this would go a long way toward helping users like us confidently make the switch and fully support ZZ Estimating as our primary tool.

Thanks for taking the time to consider this feedback — it’s shared with the intention of helping improve an already very promising platform.

Basically, I’ve set up custom variables under 'All Items' to match my Excel template so the data transfers seamlessly. However, I’d really love to see a feature that links project data—like the Project Location—right when you create the file. It would be a great way to polish the final presentation.

Right now, I’m still using a separate Excel macro to handle formatting tasks like color coding, bolding text, and generating unit-based totals. While the macros help, it feels unproductive to spend time building templates and formulas in zztakeoff only to spend more time formatting the output. Ideally, the export should be ready to share the moment it's generated.

Thanks for all the input here. We are discussing internally ways to improve the flow.
