Takeoff Selection

Instead of having to click the little icon on the side of the takeoff to start a takeoff, could just simply clicking on the title of the takeoff initiate the takeoff?

Great question @Tim

What would the takeoff item be when you click the title instead of the icon for each of these?

  • Linear trench?
  • Area seeded lawn?
  • Count of plumbing finish fixtures?
  • Last QTO item used?

I don't understand the question. Here is what I am referring to:

If clicking the title started the takeoff too, how would you expand/edit existing takeoffs?

@Tim The reason we don't auto start takeoff when you click the row is you may be selecting it to move it in to a folder, or multi-selecting and right-click to delete for example (or to edit properties). Selection operates separately from "start takeoff" currently. We will work on some ways to make it easier to start takeoff. We're totally open to ideas here. We could do a bigger green dot or move the green dot to the left of the icon to make it more obvious, but that takes more screen real estate.

@Heber I understand that somewhat - but moving the takeoff to a different folder requires you to click and hold, and stay on the takeoff menu. Similar to multi-selecting - you have to be on the takeoff menu in order to select other takeoffs. If you were to select the takeoff title and move onto the plan view to initiate the takeoff. Then to get out of "takeoff mode" hitting the escape or space key in order to go back to "select mode"

Perhaps a different icon between "takeoff mode" and "selection mode"? Arrow vs crosshairs?

This is similar to what OST had, the software I was previously using. Happy to show a demo to see if it's worth exploring.

Thanks!

Thanks for the additional details. This is definitely a friction point for users. We've been having discussions internally about this very topic the last few days. We will do some more testing. The real conflict is just making sure the user understands whether they are selecting to move or edit properties vs starting takeoff (maybe not much harm in having both select + start takeoff at the same time as long as it's on takeoffs tab, not templates tab).
