We utilize the sharing links quite a bit — we include them when sending estimates out to subs and vendors for review. Since ZZTakeoff is still a relatively new platform and many recipients have never encountered it before, I'd like to suggest adding a simple first-time tutorial experience tied to the sharing link.
The concept would be similar to the onboarding flow Microsoft uses in their web apps (Teams, Azure Portal, etc.) — when you open the app for the first time, you're greeted with a brief welcome overlay featuring 3–4 cards that highlight key features with a simple title, short description, and a "Next / Got it" button to step through them. It's non-intrusive, dismissible, and only appears once.
For the sharing link experience, something this lightweight would go a long way. I'm thinking just 3–4 steps covering the basics: navigating between plan sheets, interacting with takeoff items, and expanding/collapsing the item tree. Nothing deep, just enough to orient someone who has never seen the interface before.
Ideally this would be opt-in, either toggled on by default for shared links or as a checkbox option when generating the link, so it doesn't interfere with experienced users.
Could not agree more. It would be nice to toggle on and off and even take the new users to our tutorial videos that actually have a getting started series, and a tips and tricks section, as well as advanced section. I am very surprised on how many of our users do not use the video tutorials. It does save a lot of time and mistakes for sure if they do watch them.
Thanks for the request Michael!
Tutorial videos are like instruction manuals, those stay in the box until we are trying to figure out where all the extra bolts go.
We also have a article section in our chat section that most do not know about. Putting this out there in case there are any that did not.
