Hello ZZ Fam,
As the title states, Is there a way to batch update items? We have an item that sits under every single take off tool called "primer". We don't use lists currently as the sheer volume of products and manufacturers would creat a 100 part list that would have to be updated every 6 months to year. However we still need to update pricing on every job depending on what is specified on the drawings. Is there a way to update them all in one shot?
actually yes in your situation theres a kind of workaround to do this in the reports tab. you would need to do takeoffs of all the templates / items you want to edit then jump over to reports tab, customize your view to suit your needs. once complete you would need to then resave your takeoffs as new templates / then delete / archive the outdated ones
depending on your specific situation. another option is to have a custom property drive the change. you can select multiple takeoffs or templates in the right side window then right click - update property then select the custom property you want to change and enter the new value
Thanks Luke. Was hoping there was an easier way to do this. There used to be an "advanced item updater" tool in PS that used to work great for this task.
The custom property option sounds like it might work but I've found that when I create them they work fine - but when deleted you always end up with "ghost" properties stuck in some of the digitzers. That forces a certain amount of rebuilding of templates which is a PITA.
Hi, one workaround could be using the reports screen to batch update the editable properties, as long as you group them in a way that makes it easy to batch update (such as grouping by name puts them together and you can copy paste quickly).
+1 here too. I see zzTakeoff being the source of truth for things like production, wbs codes and heck even pricing, but hard to commit if there is not a good workspace/enterprise updater that flows down into the templates.
