We just received a 7% across the board price increase from on of our suppliers. We thought that changing the prices in the "list" would update the pricing in the templates. What is the best practice/process for this so that we can update all of our assemblies?
Hi, do you use a Markup % on your items? If not you could set that to be [Project Markup] on the items, and then you can set on the project level a [Project Markup] custom property. This would allow each job to change the markup without manually changing pricing on every template/part. Its hard to recommend a single best process without knowing how you are using zz now. Let me know your workflow and what your want to accomplish!
all my suppliers have base pricing set and offer discount multipliers that knock it down to my accurate cost each for each category. I am working on reworking my product lists to suit this so I can more easily bulk update pricing by changing the multiplier once for each category. of couse depending on my needs i still would have to do this on my templates / lists and takeoffs separately but at least this way its a little faster until the solution is baked in for us
you could also just create a custom property material increase at list level. default value x1 then change cost each to formula mode and add * [ material increase] then if you get a 7% increase you change to *1.07 and if you need to update a takeoff you can select all relevant takeoffs right click update property change value to 1.07
Currently I am not using the markup. We just use the "cost" field and then we bring all costs and qty from a report over to a customer spreadsheet that we use for markups and some final tweaks. While this vendor increased prices across the board equally that is not always true. That would make a single global variable a challenge. I was under the impression that we could just overwrite the items with the new price list, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
It will update on any new takeoffs but not change any takeoffs previously done to when you changed your list if I am not mistaken
Chris, as far as I understand it would only update a fresh takeoff if you create a new one on the spot, or make a new selections on your lists within the template you choose
the extra frustrating part about the latter being if your intention is to make the same selection, the only way to refresh is to select something else and then come back to original selection
Hi Russ Eisenberg, yes you can update them one by one, changing the prices, but thats a lot of work. How often do these prices change? Are they project specific?
Stephen, sorry for the silence. I was travelling and then playing catchup. Working to do some cleanup this week and next and get this problem solved. Our pricing typically changes once per year but that can vary by mfg. Some mfg only have a few products but some have many. We need to be able to do a bulk update and know that all prices are current. The value of ZZ to us is having systems prebuilt with products so not being able to update those effectively is a serious roadblock and has already led to a few errors. Since there does not seem to be any way to effectively bulk update, I think I will just manually do it this time and rebuild every system, but that can not be a long term solution.
Thanks for that additional information Russ! Our current plan is to come out with a tool that will allow you to update the prices in your templates/lists once and then batch sync those new prices on a per-project basis.
That would be fantastic!
