Hello everyone,
I’m very new to the estimation field and currently trying to learn more about it.
I’m especially interested in understanding how to do an actual takeoff, but I’m not sure where to begin.
For those of you who have experience in this field, how did you get started? Are there any classes, courses, or resources you would recommend for someone just beginning?
I wasn’t sure where to post this, so I’m leaving my question here and hoping to get some guidance from the community. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Estimation in general is a big field. Do you know what part of construction you might want to concentrate on? Are you trying to learn as a General Contractor estimator or Subcontractor. I think knowing that, you might get others to respond how they got started.
For me, (metal stud framing / drywall / paint / ???) it was all hands on, learn as I went, developed myown process, (which to be honest are out dated). We had a small team learning as we went.
