Using Claude

So true!

I know it's funny, but it's so frustrating. Below is a shot of Claude being 75% done with the task I asked it to perform (creating takeoffs from a large schedule & marking them), and now I have to wait almost 5 hours until it resumes.

There's still plenty of other stuff I have to do on this project so this interruption isn't catastrophic or anything for me, but if this becomes the norm with this stuff, it's a bummer.

Would be nice if Claude could provide a warning in advance like "this task may gobble up all your remaining usage and may not complete in its entirety" so I can set my expectations with no surprises.

@Jes I notice I can only get a few questions in and it times out, and that is with Pro.

I have been using Opus and have never run out, One time with Fable in a month of heavy use. Opus seems to handle anything my mind can challenge it with.

I think I even heard Claude yawn...

@Todd which version are you using? I've been using Opus 5 with High effort. To be fair, I am trying to have it construct a 3d model viewer in zzTakeoff.

@Justin Same, also on Pro. Opus 5 with High. Each time it finishes putting in the takeoffs for a floor, it performs a self quality check. Maybe that's what's killing it?

Hi Justin, I tasked the heck out of Fable yesterday and finally got my limit .. But I have been steadily attacking applications for two months on Opus 5.0 and have never ran out, and that is including the 3d earthwork tool.

I have never asked Claude to do a takeoff like Jess is doing, so that may be saving me. Has anyone tried Chat GPT, Grok or Gemini? Some of our users are trying Co Pilot as well.

@Jes That may be our issue. I was using Claude to create custom templates at first. Now, I am using them on a takeoff for the first time and verifying that everything is working as it should. Guess it consumes a lot more doing the verification process.

Following up on this, some of our team members are using Claude Max 5x to access Fable (Claude Max has 5x the usage of Pro), which is why it takes longer to hit the usage limits.

@Justin Due to all the inaccuracies and omissions I've seen these things make the last couple years, I just don't trust them enough yet to not have it perform some sort of self verification step.

@Lorin I figured. The LLMs seem to be getting better, even compared to a couple months ago, but I won't able to upgrade to Max without selling my boss on it first. I'm still tinkering with ways to demonstrate how it can save me a day's worth of manual grunt work with takeoffs. Probably won't be long

Looks like they do actually have a usage meter that you can view inside the settings menu or even watch while you've given it some tasks to perform.
