We just deployed a minor release with some feature enhancements:
Auto Box Mode
Now, for the area tool you can click & drag to draw a box even if you are in point to point mode. There are also some improvements to box mode for how it auto merges cutouts.
[Width:In] and [Width:Ft]
Suppose you have 5'-6" width:
[Width.Ft] -> 5
[Width.In] -> 6
[Width:Dimension] -> 5'-6"
[Width:Ft] -> 5.5 (this works now)
[Width:In] -> 66 (this works now)
Quick Search / Gray Folders & Views
If you have configured custom grouping / sorting in the takeoffs & templates you can now see those when you press Space hotkey for "Quick Search". This also applies to "Convert To..." and "Duplicate As..." popups.
Crap, now I'm going to have to make another post like this one on LinkedIn that I dropped this morning. Hope you enjoy.
Autobox mode Engage!
The [Width:In] is awesome! Can you update the sorting logic so that 12" > 8" in the takeoff pane?
I hate phantom zeros! Talk about a painful problem since 1996. Doubt zzTO can solve it tho.
How hard would it be to add the box mode for linear as well? Just left click and drag to do a linear box
@Tyler, I can semi-see this one, but I use the "linear with width" tool to accomplish this. That being said, I can't "snap" to both sides of the line yet.......
Tyler, there's a workaround for that. You can create an area measurement and then right click it and 'Duplicate As...' your desired linear takeoff.
@Tyler, currently, clicking and dragging with the linear tool creates a new line (segment) - which a lot of users really love.
Maybe a setting could be added to allow an actual box to be drawn with the linear tool instead.
@Victor - thanks for pointing out the work-around to "Duplicate As".
There's also "Convert To" that would let you convert an area to a linear. (Edit: I was incorrect on this - sorry. Victor is right - "Convert to" does not currently allow converting an area to a linear. That has to be done with "Duplicate As")
@James I'm not seeing this on my end. I can only convert area-type takeoffs to area-type takeoffs.
We'll add a setting for "Auto box mode" on Linear. By default it will be off since many users click & drag for segments when the linear tool is active, but shouldn't be too hard for us to give you the option to draw boxes instead. As a work-around for now, we have a Tab hotkey to quickly toggle between Point to Point and Box Mode.
