Adding Sections to Takeoffs

Overview

Sections help organize takeoffs by grouping related measurements together within a page. By adding sections, you can separate different materials, areas, or scopes of work, making your takeoff more structured and easier to review.

Sections are especially useful when working on complex drawings where multiple systems, materials, or phases need to be tracked independently.

When to Use Sections

Use sections when you want to:

  • Separate different material types on the same page
  • Organize takeoffs by area or floor
  • Group related measurements together
  • Improve clarity and reporting
  • Keep takeoffs structured and easy to review

How to Add a Section

Step 1: Open Your Takeoff Page

  1. Open your project.
  2. Navigate to the page where you want to add takeoffs.
  3. Open the Takeoff Panel.

Step 2: Create a New Section

  1. Locate the Sections area in the Takeoff Panel.
  2. Click Add Section.
  3. Enter a name for the section (example: Walls, Flooring, Insulation, Doors).
  4. Press Enter or click Save.

The new section will now appear in your takeoff list.

Step 3: Select the Section

  1. Click on the section you created.
  2. The section becomes active.
  3. Any new takeoffs you create will be added to this section.

Organizing Sections

You can keep your takeoffs organized by:

  • Creating multiple sections for different materials
  • Naming sections clearly
  • Grouping related takeoffs together
  • Using sections for different floors or areas

Example Structure:

  • Exterior Walls
  • Interior Walls
  • Insulation
  • Roofing
  • Flooring

This makes reviewing quantities and exporting reports much easier.

Renaming a Section

  1. Locate the section in the Takeoff Panel.
  2. Click the menu (⋮) next to the section.
  3. Select Rename.
  4. Enter the new name.
  5. Press Save.

Deleting a Section

  1. Click the menu (⋮) next to the section.
  2. Select Delete.
  3. Confirm the deletion.

Note:

Deleting a section will also remove the takeoffs inside it.
