Adjusting or Changing Scale

Adjusting the scale of your plans ensures that measurements in your project accurately reflect real-world dimensions. This is essential for precise material takeoffs, cost estimates, and project planning.

When to Adjust Scale

You may need to adjust or change the scale if:

  • The imported plans appear too large or too small.
  • Measurements on the plan do not match the known dimensions.
  • You are combining plans with different scales.

How to Adjust or Change Scale

1. Automatic Scale Detection

Some platforms can detect the scale of your plans automatically:

  1. Upload your plan.
  2. The system will attempt to recognize the scale based on known reference points.
  3. Review the suggested scale and confirm or adjust as needed.

2. Manual Scale Adjustment

If the scale is incorrect or not detected:

  1. Select the plan or page.
  2. Locate the Scale Settings or Adjust Scale option.
  3. Enter the correct scale using either a ratio (e.g., 1:50) or a measurement reference (e.g., 1 inch = 10 feet).
  4. Confirm the scale change. All measurements will now reflect the updated scale.

3. Verifying Scale Accuracy

After adjusting:

  1. Select a known dimension on the plan (e.g., a wall with a known length).
  2. Measure it using the software’s measurement tools.
  3. If the measurement matches the actual dimension, the scale is correct.
  4. If not, repeat the adjustment process.

Tips for Accurate Scaling

  • Always use a known reference dimension when manually adjusting scale.
  • Double-check your scale before performing takeoffs or generating reports.
  • Document any changes to scale for team members working on the same project.

Summary:

Correctly adjusting the scale ensures your project data is accurate, reduces errors, and streamlines the planning and estimating process. Always verify adjustments with a known measurement before proceeding.
