Cropping an Area to Create a New Page

Overview

Cropping an area to create a new page in zzTakeoff allows you to isolate a specific portion of a plan sheet and turn it into its own page. This is useful when working with large drawings, details, elevations, or sections that need to be measured separately without cluttering the main sheet.

This feature helps improve organization, accuracy, and workflow efficiency by allowing you to focus only on the relevant part of a drawing.

When to Use Cropping

You should crop an area to create a new page when:

  • A plan sheet contains multiple details or sections
  • You want to isolate a specific area for takeoff
  • A drawing is too large or cluttered
  • You need separate scales for different parts of a sheet
  • You want to organize details into their own pages

How to Crop an Area into a New Page

Step 1: Open Your Project

  1. Go to your Workspace
  2. Open the Project
  3. Select the Plan Sheet you want to crop

Step 2: Select the Crop Tool

  1. Locate the Crop Tool in the page tools or toolbar
  2. Click Crop Area or Create New Page from Area

Step 3: Draw the Crop Area

  1. Click and drag your mouse around the area you want to isolate
  2. Create a rectangle around the section or detail
  3. Adjust the selection if needed

Step 4: Create the New Page

  1. Click Create Page
  2. Enter a Page Name
  3. Choose the Page Folder (if applicable)
  4. Confirm the action

The cropped area will now appear as a new page in your project.

What Happens After Cropping

  • A new page is created from the selected area
  • The original page remains unchanged
  • The cropped page can be renamed, scaled, and organized
  • You can perform takeoffs on the new page independently

Best Practices

✔ Crop only the area you need

✔ Give the new page a clear name (Example: Storefront Detail, Section A-A, Lobby Plan)

✔ Place cropped pages into folders for better organization

✔ Set the correct scale after cropping

✔ Double-check dimensions before starting takeoff

Common Use Cases

Detail Sheets

Crop individual construction details into separate pages for precise measurement.

Elevations & Sections

Create dedicated pages for elevation views or cross-sections.

Large Floor Plans

Split large plans into smaller, manageable areas.

Multiple Scales on One Sheet

Crop each section and apply the correct scale individually.

Troubleshooting

Crop area is too small

  • Redraw the crop selection with a larger area

New page scale is incorrect

  • Set or adjust the scale after creating the page

Cannot find the cropped page

  • Check the page list or folder where it was saved

Crop tool not visible

  • Make sure you are inside a plan sheet and have editing access

Summary

Cropping an area to create a new page helps you:

  • Isolate important sections of a drawing
  • Improve project organization
  • Apply correct scales to different areas
  • Perform more accurate and focused takeoffs

This feature is especially useful when working with complex plan sheets that contain multiple details or drawing sections.
