Manually Setting Scale

Setting the correct scale for your plans is essential for accurate measurements and takeoffs. zzTakeoff provides both automatic and manual options for defining a plan’s scale. This article explains how to manually set the scale for a plan.

When to Manually Set Scale

You should manually set the scale when:

  • The automatic scale detection is incorrect.
  • You have plans that do not include a scale reference.
  • You are working with scanned or imported PDFs where scale information is missing.

Steps to Manually Set Scale

  1. Open Your Plan
  2. Navigate to the project and open the plan you want to scale.
  • Access the Scale Tool Click on the Scale icon in the toolbar.
  • Alternatively, select Set Scale from the plan options menu.
  • Select Manual Scale In the scale settings, choose Manual instead of automatic.
  • Define a Reference Measurement Click two points on the plan that represent a known distance (e.g., a wall, a window, or a dimension line).
  • Enter the actual distance in your preferred units (feet/inches or meters/centimeters).
  • Confirm and Apply Click Apply to set the scale.
  • The plan will update, and all measurements will now reflect the manually set scale.

Tips for Accuracy

  • Use clearly defined and precise dimensions on your plan.
  • Double-check the reference measurement before applying.
  • For large plans, consider verifying the scale at multiple points to ensure consistency.

Troubleshooting

  • Scale appears incorrect: Re-check the reference points and ensure the entered distance matches the plan.
  • Measurements still off: Try zooming in and selecting the reference points more precisely.
  • Plan has multiple scales: You may need to set scales for each sheet individually.

Manually setting the scale ensures your takeoffs and measurements are precise, even when plans lack proper scale information. Always verify your reference points for the most accurate results.
