Understanding Projects

Overview

Projects are the core of your workflow in zzTakeoff. Every set of plans, takeoffs, and reports is organized inside a project, making it easy to manage construction documents, collaborate with your team, and keep estimating work structured and accessible.

A well-organized project helps you quickly locate drawings, track progress, and ensure accurate takeoff results.

What is a Project?

A project in zzTakeoff is a container that holds all of your construction documents and takeoff data, including:

  • Plan sheets (blueprints)
  • Folders and organization
  • Takeoff measurements
  • AI-processed pages (renaming, scaling, numbering)
  • Project details and information
  • Reports and quantities
  • Team collaboration and sharing

Each construction job should typically have its own project.

Why Projects Matter

Projects help you:

  • Keep plans and takeoffs organized
  • Separate different jobs and estimates
  • Collaborate with team members
  • Track project-specific quantities
  • Generate accurate reports
  • Maintain a clean and structured workspace

This structure ensures that your estimating and takeoff work stays efficient and easy to manage.

Key Parts of a Project

Project Information

This includes details such as:

  • Project name
  • Location
  • Description
  • Company or customer information

Filling out project information helps with organization and reporting.

Plan Sheets

Plan sheets are the drawings or blueprints you upload into the project.

These can be:

  • Architectural plans
  • Structural drawings
  • Electrical layouts
  • Mechanical plans
  • Flooring layouts
  • Insulation plans
  • Any construction PDF drawings

All takeoffs are performed directly on these plan sheets.

Project Folders

Projects can be organized using folders to group plans and documents.

Examples:

  • Architectural
  • Structural
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Flooring
  • Insulation
  • Exterior
  • Interior

This keeps large projects clean and easy to navigate.

Takeoff Data

All measurements and quantities created in zzTakeoff are stored inside the project.

This includes:

  • Length measurements
  • Area measurements
  • Counts
  • Material quantities
  • Labor quantities
  • Custom trade takeoffs

This ensures each project keeps its own accurate estimating data.

Project Sharing

Projects can be shared with team members or external collaborators.

When a project is shared:

  • Users can view plan sheets
  • Users can see takeoffs
  • Users can run reports
  • Users can collaborate in real time

Important:

Anyone with access to the project can see the takeoffs and reports inside it.

Always verify who has access before sharing.
