Uploading Multiple Sets of Plans

Uploading multiple sets of plans in zzTakeoff allows you to organize different drawing packages within the same project. This is useful when working with revisions, multiple disciplines, or separate building areas while keeping everything in one place.

Overview

zzTakeoff makes it easy to upload and manage multiple plan sets within a single project. Each set can represent:

  • Architectural drawings
  • Structural drawings
  • Electrical or mechanical plans
  • Revisions or updated drawing sets
  • Different project phases
  • Separate buildings or areas

This keeps your project organized and ensures your takeoffs stay accurate and easy to navigate.

When to Upload Multiple Plan Sets

You should upload multiple sets of plans when:

  • New revisions are issued
  • You receive updated drawings
  • Different trades provide separate plan packages
  • You want to separate bid sets from construction sets
  • You are working with multiple buildings or phases

Using multiple plan sets helps prevent confusion and keeps your takeoff workflow clean and structured.

How to Upload Multiple Sets of Plans

Step 1: Open Your Project

  1. Log into zzTakeoff
  2. Go to your Workspace
  3. Open the Project where you want to upload plans

Step 2: Upload a New Plan Set

  1. Click Upload Plans
  2. Select your PDF drawing set
  3. Enter a Plan Set Name (example: Architectural Set, Revision 2, Electrical Plans)
  4. Click Upload

zzTakeoff will begin processing the files and preparing them for use.

Step 3: Wait for Processing

Once uploaded:

  • Plans are processed automatically
  • Pages are created
  • Sheets become available in the project
  • AI tools can be used for scaling, renaming, and organizing

You can continue working while the upload completes.

Organizing Multiple Plan Sets

To keep your project clean and easy to use:

  • Name sets clearly (Example: Arch Set v1, Arch Set v2, Structural, Electrical)
  • Keep revisions separated
  • Archive outdated sets instead of deleting them
  • Use folders or naming conventions for clarity

Good organization helps teams quickly find the correct drawings and avoid working from outdated plans.

Working with Multiple Plan Sets

Once multiple sets are uploaded, you can:

  • Switch between plan sets
  • Perform takeoffs on any set
  • Compare revisions
  • Keep old versions for reference
  • Share the full project with your team

Each plan set functions independently but stays within the same project.

Best Practices

✔ Upload revisions as new plan sets instead of replacing old ones

✔ Use clear naming conventions

✔ Keep outdated sets archived for reference

✔ Verify scales after each upload

✔ Organize sets by trade or revision

Following these best practices ensures accurate takeoffs and better collaboration.

Common Issues

Duplicate Sheets

Cause: Uploading the same plan set multiple times

Solution: Rename or archive unnecessary sets

Confusing Revisions

Cause: Plan sets not clearly labeled

Solution: Include version numbers or revision dates in the name

Example:

  • Architectural Set v1
  • Architectural Set v2
  • Architectural Set Final
