Using Templates

In zzTakeoff, Templates are saved takeoff tools or assemblies that include preset information such as materials, dimensions, counts, or formulas. Templates allow you to quickly reuse commonly used takeoff configurations across projects, saving time and ensuring consistency.

Benefits of Using Templates

  • Speed: Apply pre-configured takeoff tools or assemblies instead of creating them from scratch.
  • Consistency: Ensure the same settings, formulas, and measurements are used across multiple projects.
  • Accuracy: Reduce the chance of errors by reusing verified takeoff setups.
  • Organization: Easily manage frequently used components or assemblies.

Using a Template

  1. Open your project in zzTakeoff.
  2. Select the takeoff tool you want to use (Area, Linear, Count, Segment, or Assembly).
  3. Click Load Template (or Apply Template, depending on the tool).
  4. Choose the template from the list of available templates.
  5. The tool or assembly will load with all preset information, ready to apply to your project.

Creating a Template

  1. Configure a takeoff tool or assembly with the desired settings, materials, formulas, and notes.
  2. Right-click the configured tool or assembly and select Save as Template.
  3. Enter a descriptive name and optional category for easy identification.
  4. Click Save. The template is now available to use in any project.

Managing Templates

  • Rename or Delete: Right-click any template in the template list to rename or remove it.
  • Organize by Category: Group templates by type or project use for faster access.
  • Update Templates: Modify an existing template by loading it, making changes, and saving it with the same name to overwrite.

Tips for Using Templates

  • Use templates for assemblies or tools that are frequently repeated across projects.
  • Keep templates organized with clear names and categories to quickly locate them.
  • Regularly review templates to ensure materials, formulas, and settings are up to date.
