When using the search, you can currently select items and create a count takeoff, area takeoff or highlight. Would it be possible to add a button to add the new selected items to an existing takeoff rather than only creating a new item?
what search are you using?? JW.
The text search. Where I have found it is useful is on sheets like lighting plans, I can search to select all the fixtures based on their text based name and apply a count to them. Once I go to a new page however the only way to apply the new fixtures of the same type is to search, create a new takeoff, and then convert to the takeoff item I already have.
So, you are counting the same lighting fixtures just on a different page? same project?
Yes. As an example the project I'm currently working on has a light fixture L20. I can text search L20 and it finds them very accurately. On the first page I created a takeoff for L20. On the next page there may be another 15 or so of just that fixture. Currently the way it seems to work is that I have to search, create a new count takeoff, then convert. It's not horrible but could definitely be streamlined with a simple "add to existing takeoff" button next to the create takeoff button. This project has almost 40 different fixture types so the time spent does add up.
you could search all pages and make them all counts in one search; then manually count the ones it missed or delete the ones that it pulls from the BOM. But yes, I get what you are asking for.
Yes it needs to be updated to do this. Also, this feature currently does not work well on plans that don't have a PDF text layer (which is probably around 70% of the plans I receive), especially when there is vertical text instead of horizontal
