Can we have the option to export our takeoff quantities into excel in a more simple format? or customizable settings for this?
For example; when we export to excel, I would like to have the option to see my items, with the total quantity of that item, separated by folder. I would rather not see all of sub-counts, and extra info on the spreadsheet. It also includes the complete folder locations on each of your line items names, something I have to delete every time.
Good feedback Shane. We will discuss some additional features we can add here. Currently our Reports grid exports with some default settings. We'll give you guys more control over that.
Shane, thank you for posting that about Excel export. I was going to mention that as a suggestion, too.
Currently, the default export on the grid we have has the arrows "->" to how indentation. We're thinking to change and instead use some Excel styling for indentation (see screenshot below). It's like spaces on the front of indented rows, but not actual spaces, so it doesn't interfere with the actual text. This one is not filtering out the "section" data yet, but we'll add more options for that as we go:
Thanks, Heber! That is a good idea and will help us for sure. Thank you!
One of the most common questions I get is 'Can I print my report? They have asked for the export to excel to look as nice as the reports do. Can we add a Print option to reports?
Sorry everyone, It's almost hard to explain asking for something to be less complex. I hope I can articulate this well enough.
When we export to excel, we don't want to see all of the individual points and counts. I only want to see the item that we counted, with the total quantity for that item. The extra data (sub-counts) causes the exported excel spreadsheet to be 10,000's to 100,000's of lines long. And I cannot copy and paste onto a new spreadsheet without all that extra data going along with.
On the example Heber posted, I highlighted the data/lines I don't want to see on the exported sheet. Hopefully this makes sense.
Yeah I encounter this as well when exporting to Excel.
It's a data overload of sorts where all the sections of each takeoff object come up on every cell, when I only want the takeoff object's totals.
I think he wants the exports to reduce how much of the takeoff data it's shooting over, and that would help me as well.
For example, if on the reports tab, my Default Expand To level is set to 'takeoff' like this...
...I want the exported report to come across the same way. I don't want to see all of the takeoff object's children/sections on the Excel export the way it currently does:
Good Afternoon,
Is there an estimated timeframe for a resolution to this?
Hey Shane, we just released an update for reports to address this, along with a few other things. When you export, we now only export the data that is visible based on your report "Default Expand To" so that your exported report is closer to what you see in zzTakeoff.
If you would like to change the level of detail in your export, click "Options" and change the "Default Expand To".
We have more details about the improvements to the reports here
Hey Lorin!
I really appreciate your team for getting this feature added. This is a huge help for us as it made it way easier for us to transfer the info to our bid sheet templates. Thank you
-Shane
I've noticed that when you export the report to excel is scrambles some of the takeoff items. How do i keep my items in the order they were created or shown in the folder?
@Shane We just fixed this locally today, and there will be an update going out soon to make reports default display in the same sort order as in the takeoffs sidebar (unless you sort by specific columns in the report).
