Dual Scales

Under Review

I wonder if that was ever discussed. I think it may have been, but I would like to explore the possibility of finding a way to do both vertical and horizontal scales on the same sheet. On another note, can we change the line width in length takeoff, not just the color? A way to add a straight line would also be helpful for marking up documents. Currently I'm using the arrow, but it looks a little unusual.

What about also adding the ability to have another viewport (multiple would be ideal) on the same sheet, that has different scales than the overall sheet?

This comes into play with "enlarged" plan sections. The scales here are typically different than the main page. I have seen/used other programs that have this functionality, and it comes in handy.

I agree, Justin; eTakeoff does it in a similar way. However, I no longer use that program, as zz is my go-to takeoff program now.

Hi Rick,

For horizontal & vertical scales, I believe you can already do what you're asking for by scaling "Using Known Dimension"

In this example, I used the 4'6" dimension to scale it horizontally. Notice how the scale indicator in the pages window shows that it's scaled horizontally.

Next, I scale it vertically using the 6' dimension. Notice how the scale indicator shows that it's scaled both vertically and horizontally now.

--------------------------

If you're referring to setting different scales on the same page - the work around for now is to crop as a new page.

As you can see, this page has multiple details with different scales.

You can select each detail and crop it as a new page - then set the correct scale for each.

Using "SmartSelect" (drag a box around the detail) then a menu pops up, and you can choose "Crop as New Page"

I'll pass the "Viewport" idea along to the development team.

--------------------------------

Can you give a bit more clarity on the "length takeoff line width" question?

For linear and segment takeoffs, you can choose a scaled width. Is this what you're looking for?

---------------------------------------

I can see how adding a straight line for annotations would be helpful. I'll pass that request on to the development team as well.

Jason, the workaround has a failure point in that we don't always scale directly horizontally or directly vertically on a page. In the example of a sewer profile, sometimes we have to measure on a diagonal. It's not uncommon for the vertical scale to be exaggerated on those profiles, with the Horizontal being 1:50 and the vertical being 1:5. Let me know if you need an example, I've got many that I can grab.

Currently, I have to swap over to Bluebeam when I encounter than as it does have the capability to support different vertical vs horizontal scales.

You can calibrate the scale manually left to right as well as top to bottom. If the scale is exaggerated, you can enter the known dimensions and click the two points in one direction and then in the other direction. I'll double check this now but I don't think manually setting the scale in one direction will affect the other direction.

I do notice that if you try to grab a large rectangle, it will not give you the option to crop as a new page. Am I correct with what I'm seeing?

Hi Rick. If you drag a selection box, then if there is anything inside that selection box it will only select it. I'm guessing maybe there was something on the page that it selected. To force the "Smart Select" popup, you can hold the CTRL key down on the keyboard while you draw the box, and then when you let up on the mouse you will get the Smart Select popup instead of selecting what was in the box. I'm not 100% sure, but that may be the issue.

Thanks, Heber! That did the trick. I appreciate all your help.
