Best mouse for ZZ

Hey all.

Nice to connect with everyone. Brand new to the ZZ community. I currently use just a standard 3 button mouse, but watching one of the power user webinars there was some mention of how valuable a configurable multi button mouse is to efficiency. I can totally see that. Wondering if there are any that are particularly well rated or popular with you all. Or if there are any to totally stay away from. Not looking to break the bank, but would like to get set up well.

Thanks!

Commenting to follow comments, I have a fancy mouse with programmable buttons but I haven’t spent the time to try to utilize it.

i have a Logitech MX Master 4, it’s great but it’s wasting it’s talent on me at the moment.

can we also get recommendations on what some of you program your mouse to do within zz?

I'm running a DeftPRO from Elecom. I'm on my third one since 2015. I finally wore the first one out around late 2022 and bought a replacement. That one started acting funky after about 13 months and Elecom shipped me a replacement within 3 days since it was likely a manufacturing defect. It comes with software that allows you to not only map buttons but you can map them to do different things based on what program/application is active on your screen. So, the same button does different things in zzTO, excel, bluebeam. I love the darn thing. Also, the ball is moved with my fingers, and I do my mmain clicking with my thumb which is easier on my hand muscles.

If you really want to see something next level - check out the KeyMouse Track!

That hurt my brain. Baby steps.

I looked at the DeftPRO, that is very cool, but I think I prefer the active mouse, I used to use a trackball and switched. I ordered a MX 4. Solid reviews at a reasonable price. Hope I don't end up in the same boat as you Luke....with wasted talent.

I come from a graphic design background, that's why I like this software way more than any other one. I upgraded my mouse at home and didn't want to drop a ton of money on an MX yet so I ordered a dupe to see how I like it. Lemme tell you, it's a game changer to side scroll and the ergonomics are great for me. Also it's built really well so I may not have to upgrade for a while, thank goodness. Here's what I got

For me, I got onto a trackball instead of a mouse years ago because I spent a ton of time working from a laptop in a truck. You just can't use a standard mouse in a truck (unless you've got a giant center console - and my truck had no console period.
